MRA IMAGING
What is an MRA Exam?
Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) an advanced imaging technique that uses a powerful magnetic field and radio frequency waves which allows visualization of blood vessels with subtraction of surrounding tissue.
MRA enables our neurovascular radiologists to evaluate both healthy and diseased vessels in the brain, neck, heart, chest, abdomen, pelvis, upper, and lower extremities. MRA is often prescribed by a physician when suspecting Vessel Stenosis, Aneurysm, Dissection and other related diagnosis. This exam does not use ionizing radiation but traditionally requires an injection of a contrast material called gadolinium, however at Unique Imaging we can offer state of the art techniques called TRANCE / QISS / NATIVE MRA which allows non-contrast MRA imaging of blood vessels including renal arteries, lower extremities (Runoff), brain and neck for patient with renal insufficiency.

F.A.Q. About MRA Exams
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE AND WHAT TO EXPECT?
If the exam was order without contrast, no preparation is required.
If the test was ordered with contrast by your physician you will be asked not to consume food 4 hours prior your exam to avoid complications during the rare event of an anaphylactic contrast reaction. In addition, patients 60 years or older require a blood test for renal (Kidney) functions. It is very important to provide us with relevant previous exams such as CT and/or MRI for our radiologist to compare.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING AN MRA EXAM WITH CONTRAST?
If the test was ordered with contrast by your physician you will be required to receive a contrast injection into a vein in your arm. The technologist may ask if you have asthma or if you have allergies to certain drugs. The contrast material used for an MRI exam is gadolinium which does not contain iodine and is less likely to cause an allergic reaction.
